'Un elefant al jardí' Exhibition, by Sylvie Bussières

Un elefant al jardí takes as its starting point an image from the Leopoldo Plasencia collection, held at the Arxiu Fotogràfic de Barcelona, in which an elephant stretches out its trunk to reach the peanuts a woman is offering it. This unusual scene, full of poetic absurdity, inspired Sylvie Bussières to develop a project around floral elements that champions the contemplation of nature, moments of stillness and latent movement. Bussières works with the body of photographs Plasencia took of Barcelona's municipal parks and gardens between 1950 and 1970, a rigorous record of the plant life of these spaces. On his black-and-white analogue photographs, the artist intervenes in the outlines of the floral elements, giving them depth and freeing them from their formal limits, turning still images into dynamic forms. The new works thus connect past and present and evoke the vulnerability, change and unpredictability of nature. The exhibition is part of the Panoràmic Arxius section of the Festival Panoràmic, devoted to revisiting and rereading photographic archives as spaces for memory, interpretation and contemporary creation.
