L'Arxiu Històric del Poblenou celebrates fifty years with a project devoted to tracing the legacies of its industrial past. Over eight months, it will present an evolving exhibition that changes every month, a series of artistic interventions at the Arxiu's headquarters in Torre de les Aigües del Besòs, and an exhibition in collaboration with BAU at Palo Alto. Poblenou's industrial past has left twenty-nine chimneys from the more than two hundred that once existed. They now appear as ornamental features, detached from their original context and often framed by new architecture that has surpassed them in height, giving the urban landscape a new appearance. Although Poblenou was originally an agricultural area, the abundance of water and land facilitated the arrival of industry during the 19th century. A century later, deindustrialisation and Olympic renewal led to a change in direction, turning it into an area for testing new urban-planning models, from 22@ to superblocks. L'Arxiu Històric del Poblenou is now celebrating its first fifty years with a multifaceted project devoted to tracing the legacies of the industrial past.
