They form part of an imaginary world shared by several generations around the globe, with iconic scenes and characters such as saloons, duels and chases between Native Americans and cowboys. The soundtracks of these films have also become undisputed classics of the 20th century, including those by Ennio Morricone, a composer who created a distinctive musical style for the so-called spaghetti western. Elmer Bernstein's music for The Magnificent Seven also became one of the most representative scores of the 1960s. Shortly afterwards, John Williams composed the soundtrack for The Cowboys, starring John Wayne, a classic of the 1970s. And John Barry's score for Dances with Wolves is undoubtedly one of the most popular from the end of the 20th century.
