'When Does a Film Begin and End?' Conversation with Lucrecia Martel and Noelia Ramírez

Few directors have transformed the way images and sounds are understood as profoundly as Lucrecia Martel. With films such as La ciénaga, La mujer sin cabeza and Zama, she has explored the shadowy areas of memory, perception and power, becoming one of the most influential voices in contemporary cinema. At CaixaForum, she will open the session with an intervention inviting us to look beyond the screen and ask what a film really is and what trace it leaves over time. When does it begin? During filming, in the edit, or in the gaze of the person watching it? And when does it end? Martel will reflect on the boundaries of audiovisual creation, on what remains outside the frame and on the role of archives as spaces of memory, reinterpretation and imagination.
