"Women and Philosophy. Isabel de Villena (1430-1490)" Conference

Led by Xosé Díaz, Professor of Philosophy. Isabel de Villena, born in Valencia and a member of the high nobility of the House of Trastámara, devoted her life to monasticism. She was abbess of the Poor Clare community at monestir de la Trinitat in Valencia. Following in the footsteps of Christine de Pizan's work, she developed a sophisticated defence of women's role in Christianity in Vita Christi —also known as Jesús i les dones—, highlighting the importance of female figures in Christianity: Eve, Mary and Mary Magdalene.
