'Women Painters and Lacemakers' Exhibition

What do we know about women artists in Catalonia from the late 19th century through the first half of the 20th century? Were there really so few women working in artistic professions? Where did they meet, and which spaces supported them and recognised them as artists? Which crafts became feminised and were therefore relegated to second-class arts? This research and reinterpretation project was begun by Anna Fando Morell in 2022 using the "Crònica biogràfica" file of art historian Josep F. Ràfols, held at the Centre de Recerca i Arxiu del MNAC. The project seeks to reverse the historical erasure of these artists and restore their place in collective memory. By Anna Fando and l'Arxiu del MNAC within ICUB's Inventariables circuit.
