'Zips: Beginner' Workshop

In this workshop we will learn different zip-insertion techniques through a range of exercises. The first sessions will be devoted to short exercises, and during the final four classes we will develop a longer bag project in which we will put into practice the techniques learned in the earlier sessions. Materials for the first day: 1 m of continuous zip with 3 sliders, 1 piece of fabric measuring 40 x 30 cm (cotton, wax print, gabardine or twill), and another piece of the same size in a thinner fabric for the lining. Pencil and paper for notes. Basic sewing kit with fabric scissors, thread, tape measure, pen, tailor's chalk or soap for marking fabric, seam ripper, thread snips and pins. For the machine: universal presser foot, double-sided zip presser foot, bobbin case, 10 mm bobbins and sewing-machine needles. Participants are advised not to buy these until the workshop is confirmed. Led by Mavi Hita.
