Biblioteca Joan Maragall, Sant Gervasi - la Bonanova, Sarrià-Sant Gervasi
To mark the World Capital of Architecture in Barcelona, the municipal company BIMSA, responsible for managing and coordinating the City Council's public works, invites local residents to discover how one of Sarrià-Sant Gervasi's most important facilities, the Joan Maragall library, was conceived. Completed in 2014, the Joan Maragall library stands within the historic Vil·la Florida estate, a block bounded by Carrer de Muntaner, Bisbe Sivilla, Sant Gervasi de Cassoles and Reus. The project involved building a new 2,983 m² building that would fit into a heritage setting protected by Barcelona's Special Plan for the Protection of Architectural Heritage. Spread over two floors, the library offers reading and study areas for children and adults, a newspaper area, multimedia and internet rooms, and a multipurpose space for cultural activities, presentations, talks and reading promotion. The session will be led by Maite Gàmez, deputy technical director of Territorial Management at BIMSA, and Arquitectes Baena-Casamor (BCQ), who drew up the project.
