Material Languages brings together a constellation of biomaterials developed from organic waste and discarded materials. Begun in 2018, this expanding material archive presents an open field of possibilities: materials that retain the memory of their origins and that, through processes of experimentation, acquire new forms, textures and potential. The project begins with a question: what can a material become when we attend to its full potential? In the face of logics of disposal and classification that set the limits of what we consider valuable, Loana Flores proposes a practice of observation and listening towards what has yet to appear. Loana Flores (Buenos Aires, 1987) is a multidisciplinary designer and artist whose work brings together diverse resources and life experiences through an ecofeminist perspective. She co-creates with matter as a starting point for exploration and as an essential practice for understanding processes of transformation. Using organic waste combined with biodesign practices, digital fabrication and ancestral techniques, she alters states of matter to reveal their latent possibilities.
