An opera in four acts with music by Giuseppe Verdi and a libretto by Antonio Ghislanzoni, Aida is one of the great titles of the Italian operatic repertoire. Premiered in Cairo in 1871, it reached Barcelona on 16 April 1876 at Teatre Principal and the following year at Gran Teatre del Liceu. Set in ancient Egypt, it tells the story of the impossible love between Aida, a captive Ethiopian princess, and Radamès, captain of the Egyptian army. Led by María José Anglés.
