Led by Rokayah Navarro, PhD in Contemporary History from the UB. Beyond geographical and climatic conditions, the situation in the Sahel is extremely serious; among the risks and threats it faces are jihadist terrorism, organised crime, arms smuggling, trafficking in human beings and drugs, refugee flows, irregular migration and related financial flows. Identity conflicts, weak states, strategic resources, foreign presence and a whole range of other issues converge in this region, which acts as a buffer between the North African Arab world and the Gulf of Guinea and Central Africa. It is no surprise that it is a major focus of problems.
