Als carrers Montnegre amb Equador, les Corts, Les Corts

Carrer Montnegre and Carrer Equador host a permanent exhibition on the historical and industrial memory of Colònia Castells. Until the 18th century, les Corts was a rural settlement with only a small concentration of houses around les Corts Velles. Industrialisation began in the late 18th century, but from 1850 the number and diversity of companies based in les Corts increased. It was during this period that Fàbrica Castells, specialising in oilcloth and patent leather, was created, along with the Colònia Castells project, an island of workers' housing bounded by Carrer Entença, Carrer Montnegre, Carrer Equador and Carrer Taquígraf Serra. Although the initial 1923 project envisaged 20 houses of 30 square metres, it was quickly modified to increase the number to 120. By 1930 it housed 742 people in 142 households. Eleven houses from the former Colònia Castells will now be preserved, and neighbourhood uses will be determined through a functional plan currently being defined.
