"Platinum Printing and Alchemy" Conference
26 October 2026 · 19:00
Centre Cívic Casa Golferichs, la Nova Esquerra de l'Eixample, Eixample
In this conference, we will take a visual and conceptual journey through one of photography's most noble and permanent processes, from its origins in the 19th century to contemporary practice. Platinum printing, beyond being a printing technique, is a way of understanding the image in which matter, time and light relate directly. Agustí Fernández also introduces the idea of platinum printing as a process close to alchemy, in that noble metals —platinum and palladium— are transformed into lasting images, opening a reflection on permanence in contrast with the fleeting nature of the digital image. Through projections of works by artists such as Edward Weston, Alfred Stieglitz, Manuel Álvarez Bravo and Irving Penn, as well as contemporary creators including Kenro Izu, Isabel Muñoz and Nobuyuki Kobayashi, together with his own work, a dialogue is established between tradition and the present. Led by Agustí Fernàndez.
