'The Entrance to a Forest' Exhibition

The Entrance to a Forest, the second exhibition in the Digues, cosa. Joan Brossa i els poemes objecte series, curated by Marc Navarro, takes as its starting point two object poems that Brossa conceived as tributes although, despite their commemorative nature, they could be classified as counter-monuments. Firstly, because they move away from the narrative and formal grandiosity of conventional monuments, and secondly, because they contribute to restoring the memory of victims rather than celebrating the victors. To emphasise this reversal, the exhibition brings into dialogue sculptural, photographic, film and sound works by artists who, in addressing remembrance, permanence and absence, avoid epic narratives and monolithic formalism. If monuments are often conceived as sutures in an official narrative that is continually made and unmade yet presented as permanent, the works gathered here point to the excesses and omissions of that narrative. Questions such as anti-war sentiment and historical memory therefore become structural; at the same time, many works feature anatomical, organic and vegetal motifs.
