'Touching the Soul. The Murals of the Chapel of Sant Miquel' Exhibition

Museu Reial Monestir de Santa Maria de Pedralbes, Pedralbes, Les Corts

The Reial monestir de Santa Maria de Pedralbes preserves several groups of mural paintings produced mainly between the 14th and 15th centuries. Particularly notable are the paintings in the Capella de Sant Miquel, a key work both for its singularity and innovative character, linking Barcelona with the technical and artistic developments that appeared in Tuscan cities around 1300. Restoration work on these paintings, completed in 2018, provided a large amount of information on technical, historical and stylistic aspects. Museu del Monestir de Pedralbes aims to disseminate this knowledge through new technologies applied to museum display with the exhibition "Touching the Soul. The Murals of the Chapel of Sant Miquel", from 27 March 2026. This new museum space has 2 sections. The first is an introductory exhibition on the paintings of the chapel of Sant Miquel, explaining the historical and cultural context in Europe, Italy, the Crown of Aragon and the city of Barcelona, and its influence on the paintings of the Capella de Sant Miquel through the spread of Franciscanism.
