What to do in Poble-sec

Poble-sec sits between the Paral·lel and the mountain. The avenue gathered theatres and music halls from 1894 onwards, and much of Barcelona's popular culture came out of it; the neighbourhood still has a density of venues no other one has. Montjuïc begins right above. If you have a few hours, you eat on carrer Blai and end up at a show.

From the Paral·lel to Montjuïc, in three steps.

The Paral·lel was the avenue of show business from 1894 on: at its peak it had a dozen theatres and music halls, and much of Barcelona's popular culture came out of them.

Montjuïc rises right above it: the neighbourhood is the walking gateway to the hill's museums and gardens.

It is called «dry» because it had no running water until 1894: a hillside with no springs, outside the city walls.
