'Casa Vicens, Gaudí’s First House: A Manifesto of His Work' Exhibition

The attic, originally intended for domestic service and designed by Gaudí as an open and ventilated space, now houses the permanent exhibition. It is an essential room for understanding the history and evolution of Casa Vicens, consulting the construction plans and admiring some original pieces of furniture. The room is organised around thematic tables where you can discover everything from the richness of the techniques and materials used in this first house to the sources and intellectual influences that shaped Gaudí during his training. You can also view the plans submitted by Gaudí for the construction of Casa Vicens and, through various models, see the modifications made to the property. The floor is completed by a reproduction of the Manuscrit de Reus, in which Gaudí, who rarely wrote, puts his reflections on architecture into words. In the page entitled La casa pairal, he sets out his idea of what a house should be: “The house is the small nation of the family.” The exhibition also includes some pieces of original furniture designed by Gaudí for the Vicens family's house in Alella (Barcelona).
