Carrer d'Isaac Newton, Sant Gervasi - la Bonanova, Sarrià-Sant Gervasi
The Flooded Forest is one of the most emblematic installations at Museu de la Ciència CosmoCaixa. Since it was created in 2004 as part of the museum's expansion, the space has had an educational purpose: to bring nature closer to the public and raise awareness about conservation. It is a faithful recreation of an Amazonian ecosystem from the Santarém region of Brazil, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the richness and complexity of a tropical rainforest filled with environmental and scientific treasures. The Flooded Forest forms part of Sala Univers, in the Evolució area, and acts as a tangible example of biodiversity. Visitors can observe the rainforest from multiple perspectives: underground, underwater, at ground level, from the surface and from the tree canopy. More than one hundred species live in this fragment of Amazon rainforest, including plants, invertebrates, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. Visitors can see leafcutter ants, hear the song of the sunbittern, and watch capybaras and caimans swim among the vegetation. Every 15 minutes, tropical rain recreates the rainforest's humid environment.
