'Fragility through Time. The MAC Glass Collection' Exhibition

Glass is one of the earliest synthetic materials produced by humans and is the focus of one of the Museu's most remarkable collections, unique in Catalonia. Necklaces and pendants, jugs and bowls, droppers and unguentaria... The exhibition comprises glass objects found during excavations at Empúries, Puig des Molins and Mallorca, as well as purchases, donations and private loans. Across its three sections, visitors will discover a carefully selected collection of ancient glass spanning several historical periods. The discovery of glass should be understood as the culmination of a series of processes that made it possible to obtain a liquid, almost paste-like mass whose plasticity allowed it to be worked hot and shaped in many different ways. Glass is odourless, does not alter taste, can be reused and is easily recyclable. These qualities have meant that, since its discovery more than 4,000 years ago, it has been used to meet a wide range of needs. The most notable pieces from these periods come, as mentioned, from the eastern Mediterranean.
