In December 2014, the Col·lecció Salvador, held at Institut Botànic de Barcelona, a joint centre of CSIC and Ajuntament de Barcelona, was declared a Bé Cultural d'Interès Nacional by Generalitat de Catalunya. The Salvador collection forms the main core of the Gabinet Salvador preserved in the Institut Botànic de Barcelona building on Montjuïc. It was purchased by Ajuntament de Barcelona and entered Institut Botànic de Barcelona in 1945, with another part added in 2013. The contents of the cabinet have survived in remarkably complete form thanks to the efforts of generations of the Salvador family, generations of botanists at Institut Botànic de Barcelona and Ajuntament de Barcelona authorities from different periods. Together they have made it possible for this unique Cabinet of Curiosities to survive today. The Salvador family were a dynasty of Barcelona apothecaries and naturalists who, from the early 17th to the mid-19th century, assembled an important library and scientific collections.
