'Iron Techniques. From Craftsmanship to Industrial Production' Exhibition

Iron is a fundamental material. Its strength, durability and versatility have made it one of the pillars of technological and industrial development. Today, however, we know that its production entails high energy costs and a significant environmental impact. Tècniques del ferro. Del treball artesanal a la producció industrial is a small-format exhibition exploring iron as a key material in the history of design, industry and material culture. The exhibition forms part of the long-term exhibition Matter Matters. Dissenyar amb el món and continues the line begun with El valor de l'aigua, this time exploring the relationship between matter, technique and transformation. The route offers an introduction to different historical and contemporary ironworking processes, from craft techniques to industrial production. Through objects from the Col·lecció del Museu del Disseny, original tools, drawings and photographs, the exhibition shows how processes such as casting, extrusion, plastic deformation, joining systems, sheet-metal work and finishing have produced very different results, both functionally and aesthetically.
