Jowee Omicil, saxophones, clarinets, flutes, vocals and Rhodes · Julia Richard, bass · Taylor Philemon, percussion —congas and bongos— · Andy Berald, drums. Joweee BasH! Omicil is a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist with a masterful command of saxophones, clarinets, trumpets, Rhodes, piano and flutes, moving fluidly between instruments and genres. Gospel, hip-hop, vodou and traditional African rhythms all have a place in his performances. A “musical polyglot” who cannot be pigeonholed because he breaks every label. Born in Montreal to Haitian immigrant parents, Jowee discovered music in his father's church and began playing saxophone at 15. He studied at Berklee College of Music and later in New York under legends such as Ornette Coleman and Kenny Garrett, developing a bold style based on improvisation. He has shared the stage with Roy Hargrove, Branford Marsalis, Marcus Miller, Ibrahim Maalouf, Richard Bona and Pharoah Sanders, and served as master of ceremonies for Quincy Jones's 85th birthday at Montreux Jazz.
