Baixada del Monestir, Pedralbes, Les Corts

Ten years after its opening in 2005, the exhibition "El monestir de Pedralbes. Els tresors del monestir" presents, following extensive and exhaustive restoration and conservation work, a unique collection of artworks, furniture and liturgical and secular objects from the monastery's treasury, assembled over the centuries by the community of Poor Clare nuns at Reial Monestir de Santa Maria de Pedralbes. Donations formed the dowries brought by novices when entering the monastery and left as bequests after their deaths. Queen Elisenda's residence in a palace adjoining the monastery, located in the space now occupied by the sala de la Reina, encouraged novices of noble origin to enter, bringing rich possessions and embellishing different rooms of the complex through their contributions to the community. Located in the former dormitory —converted into a monumental exhibition space through work undertaken to host the Col·lecció Thyssen-Bornemisza religious painting exhibition (1993-2004)—, the new exhibition prioritises the space itself over exhibition staging and presents four main areas grouping the pieces by historical period.
