Since antiquity, humans have altered the shape and appearance of their bodies through hairstyles, jewellery, tattoos and, above all, clothing. Different ways of dressing are connected with the moral, social and aesthetic codes of each period. Fashion imposes ideals of beauty and modifies silhouettes and volumes: nature gives way to artifice. Clothing changes proportions and alters a person's relationship with space and with other people. The exhibition The Dressed Body explains how clothing changes the body's appearance through actions that alternately compress and release it, from the 16th century to the present day.
