'Barcelona in the Street. Seeing and Being Seen. The Corpus Christi Procession' Exhibition

Coinciding with the festival and as part of the celebrations marking 700 years since the first documented Corpus Christi procession in Barcelona, Museu Diocesà opens this exhibition curated by Amadeu Carbó and Nil Rider. Through a careful selection of some of the most important works in the Museu's collection, the exhibition introduces visitors to the festival, its long history and the way its processions —whose routes have changed several times over 700 years— have called the whole of Barcelona society into the streets to take part since the Middle Ages, always in an orderly fashion and according to the appropriate order of precedence: from the orbs, contrets e spunyats to the Consell de Cent, the count and the bishop, each in their proper place. The exhibition also includes elements of intangible heritage such as l'Ou com balla, festive interludes such as the gegantons del Pi, a collection of lead figures used to play at holding a procession, and a polychrome panel by an unknown artist depicting the procession of 1793. In the space "La peça convidada", objects or documents will be displayed throughout the year to complement the exhibition's content, relating to Corpus…
