Demographic ageing, declining fertility and migration movements have placed population issues at the centre of many contemporary political debates. New emerging actors frame the reproduction of the native population as a strategic issue for national survival. From an anthropological perspective, this talk explores how these narratives circulate within a transnational political space, constructing imaginaries of belonging, continuity and vulnerability that establish material and symbolic boundaries. Led by Mikel Aramburu Otazu, senior lecturer in Social Anthropology at the Universitat de Barcelona. His research has focused on political anthropology and urban and migration studies.
