Avinguda de les Drassanes, el Raval, Ciutat Vella

An exhibition tracing the history of Barcelona's relationship with the sea from the Catalan-Aragonese expansion across the Mediterranean, transporting visitors to the golden age of the galleys and the Drassanes building. The Drassanes and Galleys exhibition space includes a route framed by a scenography shaped like a galley under construction, two new viewpoints over the Galera and the Roman mausoleum discovered during the building's most recent archaeological interventions (2010-2012). Objects from the MMB collections are on display, including pieces relating to the history of the Drassanes Reials, models of the building and different galley models. Audiovisual animations introduce visitors to 13th-century Barcelona and the major Mediterranean military conflicts involving galleys. These projections are combined with interactive elements that allow visitors to learn dynamically and experientially about how galleys were built and what life on board was like. Oar simulators installed in the exhibition allow visitors, for example, to test their strength and experience first-hand the effort required to row a real galley oar.
