Party walls are anonymous walls dividing properties. Although they play no role in a building's exterior appearance, they may end up exposed to public view because of changes in urban planning. Although they play no role in the building's exterior appearance, they can become permanently exposed in a supposedly temporary state as a result of planning changes. When this happens, it creates a break in the landscape and urban fabric that can cause serious structural and habitability problems for the affected and neighbouring buildings, as well as a significant visual impact on public space. Twenty-five years ago, with the aim of eliminating these urban discontinuities and creating new façades that integrate into the urban landscape, Barcelona's Pla de remodelació de mitgeres was launched. As part of Barcelona's designation as UNESCO-UIA World Capital of Architecture 2026, Fundació Mies van der Rohe and l'Ajuntament de Barcelona are launching this international ideas competition to redesign ten party walls across the city's ten districts, with the aim of leaving a lasting legacy in Barcelona, and are calling on the global community…
