'Ptolemy, Pharaoh of Egypt. The Discovery of His Temple' Exhibition

From 305 BC to 30 BC, the throne of the Two Lands of pharaonic Egypt was occupied by a dynasty of foreign origin. Ptolemy I, the most successful of Alexander the Great's successors, laid solid foundations to ensure the successful development of all areas of society, particularly the economy, military and culture. Under the Ptolemies, Egypt experienced three centuries of prosperity, as shown by the splendour of Alexandria, the intensive exploitation of the Nile Valley and the construction of temples devoted both to gods of the pharaonic tradition and to the Greek pantheon. One such temple, dedicated to the god Horus and erected at Hut-nesut (modern Sharuna) by Pharaoh Ptolemy I, is one of the exhibition's protagonists. The recent discovery of a significant part of its remains has led the Museu Egipci de Barcelona, together with the Universität Tübingen and Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities, to create a research project aimed at highlighting the importance of this major religious building.
