Museu Diocesà de Barcelona, el Barri Gòtic, Ciutat Vella
Devoted to the construction project for the neo-Gothic façade of Barcelona Cathedral, the exhibition opens a window onto the architectural project and its sculptural component, in which Agapit Vallmitjana i Barbany (1832-1905) plays a prominent role. The exhibition invites visitors to discover one of the city's most emblematic and representative architectural spaces and iconographic programmes, located in a religious building of exceptional significance for our cultural landscape. We will journey through a story in which the contemporary and medieval worlds, beauty and technique, patronage and art are intertwined. At the same time, it will involve visitors in specific episodes that fall outside the grand narratives, emphasising the human dimension and the personal stories that shape the details of history. These are the Cathedral's "singular stories". Organised by Barcelona Cathedral and Museu Diocesà de Barcelona, together with the Universitat de Barcelona, and inaugurated as part of the activities of l'Any Vallmitjana (2019).
