What do a sonata and a poem have in common? In the early 19th century, the Romantic ideal transformed the way music was understood: it stopped being merely a formal construction and became a language capable of expressing ideas, emotions and stories. Through Beethoven and the great Romantic composers, this session explores how music became imbued with poetic meaning and turned into one of the deepest forms of artistic expression. Given by Irene de Juan Bernabeu, musicologist, pianist and music communicator.
