What to do in Gràcia
Gràcia was a separate municipality until 1897 and still behaves like one: its street pattern predates the Eixample, which is why it does not line up with the grid. It is squares with terraces, independent cinemas and theatres, and in August the best-known street festival in the city, decorated by hand by residents over months. If you have a few hours, you go from square to square and decide as you go.
Gràcia is a district of Barcelona: it covers 5 administrative neighbourhoods.

Get to know Gràcia
From independent town to neighbourhood with its own festival, in three steps.
It was an independent town until 1897 and still behaves like one: its street plan predates the Eixample grid and does not follow it.
The August Festa Major is Barcelona's best-known street festival: streets compete for the best decoration, handmade by residents over months.
Park Güell sits on its upper edge, in la Salut, and was a failed housing estate: two of the sixty planned plots were ever sold.
