What to do in Poblenou

Poblenou is where Barcelona put its factories and later turned them into something else. It is walkable: brick warehouses that are now museums and art centres, a rambla running down to the sea, and a programme that wakes up at night. If you have a few hours, this is a place to walk without a fixed plan and step into whatever is open.

Get to know Poblenou

From factory floor to creative district, in four steps.

It was called «the Catalan Manchester»: by the mid-19th century it held the densest concentration of industry in southern Europe.

The 22@ plan, approved in 2000, rezoned two hundred industrial blocks for offices and housing; the result coexists with the sheds left standing.

Several of those sheds are now public venues: Can Framis as a museum, La Escocesa and Hangar as production centres, Can Felipa as a civic centre.

The Rambla del Poblenou is still the neighbourhood's spine: it runs down to the sea because it was laid out when the area faced the beach, not the Diagonal.
